10 Best Gifts for Teen Guys (Under $30)

10 Best Gifts for Teen Guys Under $30

Teen guys can be incredibly difficult to choose gifts for!  Especially if they seem to have everything.  I have two teen sons, with teenage friends, which can be a lot of gifting to teen guys!  Add a nephew with totally different interests in there, and I’ve had to really work hard to think of ideas at different times!  Here are some my best ideas for gifts for teen guys, but be warned!  None of them has anything to do with screen time (because we don’t do screen time entertainment in our house).  There may be other great ideas if you have a guy who loves video games, etc., but I’m just not into that with my kids.

And can I just point out that this is another reason NOT to spoil your kids?!  If you spoil them, they will be more difficult to buy gifts for…always!  Not just now, but later, when they’re married too.  Really, if you buy your children everything they ever want, what will they do if they are married and poor?  Will they be appreciative of the gifts their wife gives them?  Just a reminder to be careful about how much you give your kids.  Kids who do not get everything they want tend to be more grateful than their never-wanting-for-anything counterpart

Okay, on to the list!

10 Best Gifts for Teen Guys (Under $30)

  1. Learn to Solder Kit—

If you have a tinkerer, this is a great gift!  My sons both learned to weld at around nine years old, so this would have been a great gift for them when they were a little bit younger.  However, there are many different brands that make these kits in a variety of skill levels and price ranges, so you can do a little scouring of the Internet to find the best one for your guy!

  1. Cologne/ Body Spray—

My oldest son loves to smell good…and that is a habit I want to encourage!  Some colognes are quite expensive and out of this price range, but you can get great “self-care” gift packs from brands like Old Spice or Axe that include body wash, deodorant, and body spray and my sons really love them!  If you’re really savvy, you can get these after Christmas and New Year’s for quite cheap!

Pro Shopper Tip: Menards carries these randomly!  I just picked up a kit that included a full-size body-wash; full-size deodorant; full-size body spray; and a travel-size body spray for…$5!!  The regular price of ONE DEODORANT!

This can be a great addition to a gift that comes in under budget, or can be added to a recently-moved-to-college-guy’s care package.  There’s nothing worse than having to spend your own money on soap!

  1. Survival Kit and Guide/ Wallet Ninja Tool—

My sons love reading survival tips!  It turns out, some of their friends do too.  When they were invited to a birthday party of their thirteen-year-old friends, a pocket survival kit, similar to this, was a perfect gift!

Survival kits come in a variety of sizes and price ranges.  If you feel like it, throwing in a book such as this is also a good addition!

  1. Fishing lures—

My son and his friends go fishing together a lot, which ends in a lot of lost lures.  This is a gift that a guy who enjoys fishing will always be able to use (yes, even if you think he has PLENTY already!)

Do take time to figure out what type of fishing your teenager is doing before just buying a bunch of random lures.  There are different lures for different types of fishing, so you need to have a little bit of background knowledge before purchasing!

  1. Re-chargeable wallet power bank—

A few years ago, I found a couple of these on an after-Christmas clearance sale and picked up as gifts for friends…which my sons subsequently tried to claim for themselves immediately!  That’s the sign of a good gift in my house!

These are not expensive and most teenagers have their phones with them constantly, so having an extra charge for those emergency dead batteries that interrupted their game is important!

  1. Cordless speaker—

My son and his friends like to throw the football around and listen to music.  There are many, many options for a cordless speaker in different price ranges.  Now, if your teen already has the top-of-the-line cordless speaker, obviously, this isn’t a great idea!

However, if your teen is like my son, who does not have the top-of-the-line speaker, a new one is ALWAYS BETTER!  He has a couple of different cheap speakers, but sometimes he leaves them somewhere; or they get broken, etc.  And interestingly, he’s also the only one in his group to have a cordless speaker.  (Everyone else probably has Apple Air Pods and don’t share their music?  I don’t know!)

  1. Gloves/ Equipment—

I’m not just talking about regular winter gloves here…that’s a gift for office-party gift-exchange, right?  Not for teen guys!  But if you have a teen who is into a specific sport, such as dirt-biking, snow-mobiling, hunting, etc. a new pair of gloves might be a great idea for him.  It’s usually the cheapest part of the necessary equipment, but often, the most neglected part!

I can’t tell you how many times my sons have had all of their hunting equipment ready to go, and then realize the night before season opens that they have no decent gloves for their 10-degree excursion!  New gloves are almost always welcomed!

  1. Nerf Guns—

Seriously, y’all!  You might think Nerf is for 7-10 year-olds, but my sons and my nephew love getting new Nerf guns!  (My older guys like the Rival-style gun best.) I want to throw them all out because I’m just so tired of picking up darts and Rival ammunition everywhere, but I’m really not sure you could ever go wrong with a Nerf gun!

A couple of years ago, my son even gave one of his female friends a Nerf gun!  She only has one sister and had told him she had never played, so he bought her a gun and she loved it!  (Apparently, it worked well for keeping her younger sister out of her room!)

  1. Tool box/ tools—

This is another great gift if your guy likes to tinker; but really, all men should have at least a small collection of tools by the time they’re adults!  This is another one that you can be savvy about when you shop.  Menards often runs small tools Free (or cheap) after Rebate.  I’ve even found toolboxes to be very cheap on these deals!  If you plan ahead, you can give a nephew or a friend, or even your own kid, a great gift for not a lot (maybe even FREE!) of money!

Pro-tip:  If you want to go the extra mile, take time to wood burn your teen’s name into the handle of his new hammer, etc. for a more personal touch!

  1. Date Night—

If you have a teen guy in your life who has a girlfriend, gift him with a “date package.”  You can spend as much, or as little as you like, but dating is expensive, and every little bit helps!  Maybe it’s a gift certificate to take his girl out to eat somewhere a little fancier than Chick-Fil-A.  Maybe it’s movie tickets or tickets to play mini-golf.  Look up a fun place to go in his area and take the work out of date-planning for him for a night!

Hopefully, these 10 gifts for teen guys will help you in planning your Christmas gift list and maybe get you through the teen years of gift-giving!  Most of these are tried-and-true with either my own sons, or their friends, but hopefully, they’re new to you and will be a hit with the guy in your life!
