If your kids are like mine, they’ve had a lot of summer activities canceled.
This can be a moment of crisis, or a moment of opportunity. Are you going to make the most of it? Or are you going to let them drive you crazy all summer? They might already be driving you crazy. Where will you be in August?! I’ve got you covered with the Summer Fun Challenge!
My kids have had a lot of disappointments with Spring and Summer activities canceled. Thankfully, I don’t have a senior, so there will be other seasons; nevertheless, there have been some disappointing moments in our household, as I’m sure there have been in yours. So, what are we going to do about it?
I’m planning for this to be the best summer ever! Nothing to be constantly
running to. No projects to complete at the last second before the fair.
Instead, we can just have fun and my kids can be kids! And by the time school starts in the fall, they’ll either be ecstatic to get back to their activities, or they’ll realize that maybe they should pare down and choose the ones that are the most important.
Let’s go back in time a few decades—back to when parents weren’t constantly schlepping kids to activities and watching from the sidelines as their children “performed.” Let’s go back to eating dinner together, discussing things that matter, working together on chores and home maintenance, and most importantly, having fun together and making memories that last!
This month, my husband has to be furloughed from his job. It’s a bit of a weird time to try to take a family trip anywhere so we’re planning the ultimate staycation. I’m definitely looking forward to making it a week to remember!
After all, we don’t know where the world is headed after this. Ultimately, if you believe the Bible, you know that things probably aren’t going to get better soon and I want my children to know how to have joy and to make life fun in the midst of difficulty. If we want them to learn it, then we have to live it!
In any case, I plan to make this the most memorable summer of our lives! Are you in? Are you ready to commit to the work it takes to do that? Join this group of extraordinary moms who are committing to being the best they can be!
